Rep. Travis Couture updates Brandi Kruse on his fight to save kids from WA’s broken child welfare system
Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, tells Undivided host Brandi Kruse there are several bills this session that sponsors say are meant to address the dramatic increase in child deaths and near deaths of DCYF-involved children left in homes with parents using hard drugs, like fentanyl and meth. Unfortunately, Couture says most are about what happens after these tragedies when it is too late to save a child, or are do nothing bills that continue to prioritize the needs of drug-addicted parents over saving a child’s life. He says the only bill that changes the current ultra-high standard of imminent harm so courts can get kids out of dangerous drug-filled living situations and hopefully save that child’s life, is his House Bill 1092, which the Democrat majority has refused to hear for the second straight year.
