Rep. Travis Couture: Stop needless deaths of babies and toddlers in homes with hard drugs, fix the Keeping Families Together Act

Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, speaks at a January rally to fix Washington’s Keeping Families Together Act to stop the practice of leaving children in homes where adults are actively using hard drugs, like fentanyl and meth. Couture and others say the 2021 law has fueled the dramatic increase in child deaths and near deaths involving exposure to drugs. Couture highlights House Bill 1092, his bill to change the standard so kids are not left in homes with drug-using parents that also creates a path to reunification once parents get treatment. Democrats continue to refuse to hold a public hearing on the bill.
