Rep. Travis Couture fights against a bill from the majority party that erodes public safety
Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, leads House Republican opposition to House Bill 1390. The bill from the majority party eliminates the Community Protection Program, which provides a variety of services, restrictions, security, and oversight to adult clients of the Developmental Disabilities Administration who have been charged or convicted of a sexually violent crime or who have a history of violent, sexually violent, predatory, or stalking behavior and who a professional has determined demonstrates a likelihood to commit crimes of that nature. Couture argues ending the program takes away important protections for the community, some of our most vulnerable citizens, and for those within the program. Three House Democrats joined every House Republican in voting against the bill but it still passed on a 55-42 vote.
