Mason County Christian School Student Emma Hickson Serves as State House Page
Emma Hickson, a student at Mason County Christian School, recently completed service as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Sponsored by 35th District Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, Emma participated in the legislative process during the week of February 10th to the 14th.
“Emma’s dedication and positive attitude made her a wonderful addition to our team,” said Couture. “Her commitment to both her faith and her community was evident in how she approached her duties as a page.”
When not engaged in her studies, Emma dedicates her time to horseback riding and is actively involved in her local church. These interests have helped shape her into a well-rounded student eager to learn about public service.
During her week at the Capitol, Emma immersed herself in the full scope of legislative work. She assisted with document distribution throughout the House chamber, provided support to legislative offices, and participated in daily page school sessions. These experiences offered her valuable insights.
The legislative session provides students across the state with weekly opportunities from January 13 to April 27. Students ages 14 to 16 are eligible to serve and receive a daily stipend of $65, with the potential to earn up to 20 hours of community service.
