Washington Middle School Student Mathilde Serves as State House Page
Mathilde Lagerberg, a student at Washington Middle School, recently served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives. Under the sponsorship of 35th District Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn.
“It’s always inspiring to see young students like Mathilde take an active interest in state government,” said Couture. “Her enthusiasm and willingness to learn made her an excellent addition to our legislative team during her time at the Capitol.”
During her week at the Capitol, Mathilde performed a range of legislative duties critical to daily operations. She assisted with distributing important documents throughout the House chamber and provided valuable support to member offices. Additionally, she attended specialized page school sessions, where she gained comprehensive insights into Washington’s legislative process and the foundations of state government.
“The page program offers students a unique opportunity to experience government in action,” Couture noted. “This hands-on experience often becomes a foundational moment in their civic education.”
The legislative session provides weekly opportunities for student participation from January 13 to April 27. Students aged 14 to 16 are eligible to serve and receive a daily stipend of $65, with the potential to earn up to 20 hours of community service.
