Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I hope 2025 is treating you well.

My seatmates and I are working hard for you here in Olympia.

As we kick off the third week of the session, I wanted to fill you in on what we’re working on and some of the concerning issues coming up this week.

In the first two weeks of session, Democrats have proposed many bad bills.

One of the most concerning is House Bill 1296 which would strip many parental rights passed just last year by an initiative to the Legislature.. The bill limits or eliminates altogether a parent’s right to be notified about non-emergency medical treatment their child receives, medications, whether a student has left home to live in a youth shelter, access to records and many other rights vital for parents to be good parents. This is a massive government overreach that puts all Washington families at risk.

The bill is scheduled to be voted out of the House Education Committee on Thursday, Jan. 30. If you are concerned about this policy I encourage you to contact the committee chair and all House Democrats to voice your opinion.

That’s all for this update. I’ll have more to share in the next few weeks, including news about our 35th District town hall in March.
