Rep. Travis Couture discusses proposed bipartisan legislation on KVI designed to protect communities from violent sex offenders

Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, says three bipartisan bills will be under consideration during the 2024 session designed to protect communities from sexually violent predators.

Couture tells KVI’s Ari Hoffman the bills are in response to actions by Gov. Jay Inslee over the past year to release sex offenders from civil commitment at McNeill Island and relocate them in communities throughout Washington.

Couture says the legislation would place a moratorium on releases from McNeill Island until a fix is determined, close loopholes on release, lengthen Department of Corrections’ supervision, and provide ample public notification before sex offenders are released into communities.
