Rep. Travis Couture sworn into office, begins first term in state House for 35th District
State Rep. Travis Couture, R-Allyn, took the oath of office today, beginning his first term representing the 35th Legislative District. The ceremony occurred at noon in the House of Representatives on the first day of the scheduled 105-day session.
“I am truly honored to begin the important work of serving everyone in the 35th District,” said Couture. “I will work tirelessly – with honor, courage, and integrity – to protect our rights, make our communities safe, and provide our kids with a quality education.”
A U.S. Navy Veteran, Couture patrolled the Pacific as a submariner while stationed with Ballistic Missile Submarines USS Alabama and USS Nebraska. He lives in Allyn with his family and is employed as a defense contractor at Naval Submarine Base Kitsap, where he assists the U.S. Navy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership and a Master of Business Administration from Brandman University.
The 35th District lawmaker will serve on four House committees:
- Human Services, Youth and Early Learning (Assistant Ranking Member)
- Appropriations
- Capital Budget
- Environment and Energy
The House Human Services, Youth, and Early Learning Committee, where Couture will serve as assistant ranking member, considers various issues and services affecting children and families, including early learning, child care, economic assistance programs, developmental disabilities, child and youth development, child welfare services, children’s mental health, at-risk and homeless youth, and juvenile justice.
“As the father of four, I understand the unique challenges parents face with education, child care, the high cost of living, and more,” said Couture. “For me, family comes first. We need better outcomes for families in the 35th District and across Washington state, and I look forward to working with my new colleagues on real solutions.”
