As a U.S. Navy veteran, I know firsthand what service and sacrifice mean. In Olympia, I bring that same grit, working with honor, courage, and integrity every day.

My focus is clear: fiscal responsibility, a strong K-12 education system, affordable child care, real tax relief, and tackling Washington’s affordability crisis head-on. I’m also fighting for public safety, solutions to homelessness and the drug epidemic, and policies that protect your rights.

Rep. Travis Couture: Stop leaving kids to die in homes with parents on fentanyl, meth

Rep. Travis Couture continued his years-long fight to stop the needless deaths of babies and toddlers involved with DCYF who have been left in homes with adults actively using hard drugs like meth and fentanyl. These drug-related deaths and near deaths reached record levels in 2025 after years of increases following passage of the Keeping Families Together Act in 2021, which made clear that active drug use alone is not enough for courts to remove children from a home. Citing these cases, Couture offered several amendments to strengthen House Bill 2660, warning the bill places too much emphasis on protecting the rights of drug-using parents while not doing enough to protect vulnerable children.

Rep. Travis Couture warns Democrats’ $80 billion budget puts Washington at risk

House Republican Budget Leader Rep. Travis Couture warns that the Democrats' massive $80 billion budget has the state spending more than it will bring in, leaving taxpayers on the hook. He says the budget is built on shaky ground, relying on an unconstitutional income tax and draining reserves to nearly the lowest in the nation to make the math work. Even with that massive spending, Couture says Democrats still slashed critical services people depend on, including health care, schools, and child care, while doing nothing to make things more affordable. Couture says Washington families deserve a budget that lives within its means and puts affordability first.

Rep. Travis Couture fights the anti-sheriff bill

Rep. Travis Couture warned a new law shifts power away from voters and into the hands of the state. The measure allows a governor-appointed commission to investigate, decertify, and remove elected sheriffs, even if voters disagree. It also narrows who can run for sheriff, limiting choices before ballots are ever cast. Couture argued that sheriffs should answer to the people who elect them, not a board in Olympia. He says this law takes decision-making out of the hands of voters and weakens local control.

Rep. Travis Couture torches $250 million cut to K-12 schools

House Republican Budget Leader Rep. Travis Couture fights Senate Bill 6260, a bill from majority Democrats that slashes $250 million from K-12 education. Couture explains that despite passing massive tax hikes, Democrats are robbing kids of opportunities by cutting funding for Transition to Kindergarten, school buses, Running Start, and local effort assistance that will hit rural districts the hardest.
